The Product Evaluation (PE) Scientist will be a part of the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Research Center. The incumbent will be responsible for instrument control software and application software verification and validation of existing and newly developed products in support of Product Development groups, particularly focused Liquid Chromatography (LC), Ion Chromatography (IC) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) as well as LCMS and ICMS applications.
In this role, you will apply your LC, IC, MS and Analytical Chemistry experience in both implementing established test protocols and in collaborating with Development Scientists and Engineers across sites in San Jose, CA; Austin, TX; and Bremen, Germany to test novel chromatography and mass spectrometry software products.

A day in the Life:

  • Work closely with multiple teams to ensure successful integration of application and instrument control SW packages across a variety of environments and topologies.
  • Coordinate and perform end-to-end testing of Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry software solutions.
  • Enhance and maintain test automation using different testing tools
  • Configurate and test the software functionality regarding different chromatography instruments.
  • Identify, analyze, and document defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in product performance.
  • Create new test procedures and test cases for new functionality.
  • Communicate project status and issues to other functional teams, collaborators and management.
  • Generate clear documentation for project documents and status reports.
  • Create and implement integration, and compatibility level test cases.
  • Participate in project planning and progress tracking.
  • Contribute to the timely delivery of the CMD software projects.
  • Setup of HPLC and IC equipment with Mass Spectrometers or other detectors. Calibration of mass spectrometer. Limited sample and solvent prep for acquisition workflows.

Requirements:


  • BS/MS degree in Science (chemistry, biology or related subject area), Software, Engineering or equivalent. PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience using analytical instrumentation.
  • Good leadership and communication.
  • Solid understanding of LC, IC and MS instrumentation. Technical attitude, willing to understand the operation principals of liquid chromatography systems including autosamplers, pumps, detectors and separation techniques.
  • Hands-on experience on one or more separation techniques: HPLC, nLC, uLC, IC.
  • Ability to test and investigate and solve problems involving multiple component software packages across a wide variety of potential customer environments and topologies.
  • Motivated, driven, autonomous work proficiency.
  • Decision making for quality results.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • A thorough understanding of qualitative and quantitative analytical chemistry.
  • Proven technical\\scientific knowledge in Life Sciences using HPLC, Mass Spectrometry or similar techniques.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary matrix managed environment.
  • Ability to present results in a public forum.

Preferred:

  • Proven experience in using test management tools.
  • Familiarity with entire software development process, particularly in an Agile environment.
  • Familiarity with Quality System Regulation and FDA expectations for software and hardware validation is a plus.
  • Programming skills in a major programming language or scripting language.
  • Experience with Thermo or competitor software or equivalent experience testing scientific software or experience with Liquid/Ion Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry applications a plus.
