About the position:

Vilnius Academy of Arts is looking for a choir director who would not only lead the choir, but also create a vibrant, visible and creative VDA choir community.

What will you do with us:

  • You will form the artistic direction and repertoire of the VDA choir, combining the tradition of choral music with contemporary musical trends relevant to students.
  • You will gather and cultivate a mixed student choir: actively invite new members, organize auditions, determine voice groups and take care of a balanced composition of the choir.
  • You will plan and conduct regular rehearsals, develop vocal technique, ensemble singing, musicality and stage culture - you will work with both experienced singers and those who want to start.
  • You will prepare the choir for VDA events, concerts, festivals and competitions in Lithuania and abroad; if possible - for song festivals and other significant choral music events.
  • You will initiate joint projects with VDA students, departments and other art fields, look for connections between music, visual art, performance and stage expression.
  • You will create an active choir life: you will mobilize the community, promote student involvement and responsibility for the overall result.
  • You will contribute to the visibility of the choir: you will plan the publicity of the activities, provide content and information to VDA communication, actively present concerts, auditions and achievements of the choir.
  • You will plan the activities of the choir season, the calendar of concerts and rehearsals, cooperate with concertmasters, musicians, event organizers and other partners.

What to expect:

  • You have a higher musical education (choir conducting, music or a related field) or equivalent professional experience.
  • You are able to conduct a choir, professionally plan rehearsals and prepare the group for public performances.
  • You are familiar with choral and vocal methodology, are able to work with singers of different backgrounds and voices.
  • You have a broad musical horizon and a desire to work with a repertoire of various styles - from classical and Lithuanian choral music to contemporary arrangements, jazz, popular music or folklore elements.
  • You are able to motivate and create a safe, inclusive, but result-oriented creative atmosphere.
  • You have good communication and collaboration skills and understand the importance of consistent publicity of the choir's activities.
  • You are proactive and organized, ready not only to wait for opportunities for the choir to perform, but also to create them yourself.
  • You have the opportunity to conduct rehearsals on weekdays after 5 pm; during concerts, festivals or competitions - work flexibly and go on trips if necessary.

We will consider advantages:

  • Experience in directing a student, youth or amateur mixed choir.
  • Experience in preparing groups for competitions, festivals, song festivals or concert tours.
  • Ability to arrange, adapt or commission repertoire for a specific choir composition.
  • Experience in initiating interdisciplinary artistic projects.
  • Ability to communicate the choir's activities on social networks and other modern channels.
  • Good knowledge of English (required for international cooperation).
