Principal Research Economist

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct applied economic research using economic theory and quantitative methods to assess cyclical, structural and economic policy issues relevant for Lithuania and the euro area.
  • Develop and publish research through the Bank of Lithuania's Working Paper series, conferences and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Coordinate and participate in research projects within the Bank of Lithuania and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).
  • Lead the development of econometric models for economic analysis, forecasting and policy scenario analysis.
  • Represent the Bank of Lithuania in the ESCB and international working groups, task forces and research projects.
  • Provide expert advice on economic theory, quantitative methods and economic analysis.
  • Contribute to analytical publications, policy assessments and materials aimed at professional and wider audiences.

What we expect from you:

  • A PhD in Economics, Finance or a related field, with at least one publication in a peer-reviewed economics or finance journal.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong knowledge of econometrics and economic theory, with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proven ability to lead applied research and organizational projects as well as training and supervising interns or junior economists.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to economic and financial challenges.
  • Ability to communicate complex research findings clearly and tailor research outputs to different audiences.
  • Strong research writing skills and experience in preparing research papers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages/tools: R, MATLAB, Dynare, Stata, Python, or equivalent.

  • A competitive salary based on your skills and experience. Salary range: EUR 4,240 – 6,360 (gross).
