The Fisheries Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania is a modern budgetary institution that implements the fisheries policy of Lithuania and the European Union and ensures the sustainable use of fish resources. The Service organizes and carries out fishing control in the Baltic Sea and distant fishing areas (Atlantic, Pacific and other oceans), takes care of the conservation, restoration and enrichment of fish resources in inland waters, participates in the formation of fisheries policy and implements projects financed by the European Union.
An important area of activity of the Fisheries Service is fish farming: annually, about 15 million juveniles of various species of fish are raised and released into Lithuanian lakes and rivers, thus contributing to the preservation of biodiversity and the restoration of aquatic ecosystems.
In carrying out its functions, the Fisheries Service seeks to ensure responsible and legal use of fish resources, strengthen the progress of the sector and create sustainable, transparently managed fisheries in Lithuania.
